Infrastructure
R0 Brussels Ring Road
An optimised, future-proof ring road around Brussels
The renovation of the Brussels Ring is one of the largest infrastructure projects in Belgium. Four northern interchanges are being completely redesigned for a clearer and safer flow of traffic — without taking up more space, and at points such as Sint-Stevens-Woluwe even less.
The redesigned interchanges weave through traffic, local traffic, cyclists, trams and ecological corridors across several levels, using tunnels, embankments and lowered roads. Space is reclaimed for nature, and the dated, space-hungry turbine interchanges of the past disappear.
To make that integration possible, the design process worked with parametric modules — scalable elements such as flyovers and tunnels — which could be tuned precisely to the complexity of each location.
My contribution
- Complex parametric 3D models in Rhino/Grasshopper with the accompanying 2D drawings
- Setting up a design quality plan with design rules in text, drawing and image
- BIM checks for discrepancies against consultants' models, in line with BIM standards
- Setting up permit sheets and standardising workflows, modelling and rendering
