Turnhout Sports Complex
Multifunctional sports building with classrooms and a café
The Stadspark on the southern edge of Turnhout is a network of avenues and winding paths that form a series of distinct 'rooms' — with playing fields, a pond, a swimming pool and the stadium of FC Turnhout.
In one of those rooms, on the south-western corner along the Steenweg op Tielen, the municipal depot for grounds maintenance makes way for a new sports complex with two sports halls, a climbing hall, a dojo and eight classrooms for the neighbouring secondary school.
The design aims for an inviting, multifunctional building that blends into its surroundings and is as sustainable and circular as possible — with a compact layout around the halls that maximises the greenery of the park.
